Flagler Beach is a small town found on the Palm Coast of Florida. This Atlantic fishing community is home to about 5,000 year round residents and has an economy greatly entrenched in fishing and tourism. Flagler is situated between Daytona Beach and St. Augustine and was first incorporated in 1925 as a very small fishing village. Since that time, the town has grown into a diverse seaside community which retains a great deal of its old Florida charm.
Flagler boasts six miles of beaches which are uncrowded for the majority of the year. Combined with the beaches, fantastic fishing spots are to be had there, including the Flagler Beach Municipal Pier. The Pier is one of the more well known spots for fishing in the area. The original pier was completed in 1927, soon after the city was incorporated. The pier has been enlarged over time and at one point permitted fishermen and guests to stroll 1,000 feet out to sea. Storms and endless battering by the Atlantic have condensed the span to its present day 806 feet.
Fishing from the pier is allowed and encouraged, but a fishing license will have to be bought. They are accessible from the bait shop which is prominently found on the pier.
On the other side of the state, on the long stretch of white sand beach known as the Emerald Coast, is Seagrove Beach. This town began its creation as an extremely remote family property accessible by a single road. With the exception of several cottages and a small beach rental, Seagrove Beach was untouched and left to the Florida wilds.
Since that generation, Seagrove Beach has begun expansion and grown to be a most important spot for individuals who would like to see what Old Florida was like during romantic getaways on the Emerald Coast and for tourists involved in fishing and getting out into nature.
For folks who enjoy fishing in the backwaters, Seagrove Beach is one of the greatest regions on the Emerald Coast. Kayak rentals are available, and fishing from a kayak is one of the more exceptional ways to explore regions of the coast that are inaccessible to larger fishing vessels. Red Fish and trout are species commonly found in the flats.
For more traditional fishermen, red fish, flounder, and speckled trout are effortlessly caught in the Coctawatchee Bay with light tackle. Charters available in Seagrove, particularly Smiling Fish Charters can take guests on a variety of fishing excursions into the bay.
For folks who are not as enthusiastic about fishing and just want to get out on the water, Smiling Fish also has Choctawatchee Bay and River Wildlife Photo Safari and a sunset cruise. This opportunity is outstanding for family and friends who merely want to explore the Emerald Coast and its native beauty as the sun goes down.
